Building International Bridges at The Texas Edge London
On Wednesday, July 24, London-based Longhorns turned out for an up-close account of cutting-edge initiatives from the university’s leadership at The Texas Edge. The event, hosted by the United Kingdom Texas Exes (UKTE) alumni group, was held at London’s beautiful Institute for Directors, where vibrant surroundings added impact to stories of innovation and creativity.
Talented McCombs students were front and center in a panel discussion led by Dean Jay Hartzell in which two Canfield Business Honors students studying in London gave insight into the impact of their global experiences. Attendees also had the pleasure of hearing from brand-new accounting faculty member Jeffrey Hales, who described advances in corporate accountability and oversight, and University of Texas at Austin President Greg Fenves, who introduced the new Texas Advance Commitment program, which will expand financial aid to make UT more affordable for Texans.
Below, look through a few snapshots and memories gathered by several of our Center for Global Business representatives throughout the event.
UKTE President and McCombs alum Matthew Hansen introduces President Greg Fenves.
We enjoyed connecting with attendees Jeffrey and Jennifer Eldredge, who we hope to see at the annual UKTE crawfish boil.
President and Mrs. Fenves, Provost Maurie McInnis, and Sr. Vice Provost Sonia Feigenbaum enjoy conversation about the importance of crafting UT’s global impact.
Two generations of Longhorns gather in London! We enjoyed catching up with McCombs alum David Gallagher, whose son is a current UT student, and his family.
UKTE President Matthew Hansen and Center for Global Business Director Deirdre Mendez celebrate their collaborative efforts to keep global UT alumni connected. Though our time at the event was short, the lasting impact of building networks, meeting and reconnecting with global Longhorns, and celebrating what makes the “Texas Edge” unique will continue to inspire us as we head into another academic year in Austin.
