How Walmart Outgrew Its Compliance Problem

This is an important story about Walmart’s regulatory troubles in Latin America. Walmart’s experience presents some enduring lessons learned in the compliance school of hard knocks for companies … even for big, sophisticated ones…when they fail to balance their quest for growth with appropriate safeguards and a culture of compliance and integrity. I personally would guess between fines, investigations, internal fixes and lost opportunity this was a $2B misadventure for Walmart.

Walmart’s experience will be useful reading for any firm planning to expand overseas into emerging economies.
