As the university prepares for the fall term, the Center for Global Business is looking forward to connecting students with a number of exciting new opportunities.

New Academic Options

Starting in the Fall 2020, students will have even more ways to incorporate international business and global readiness into their academic journey.

  • International Business Minor: The IB minor allows students to explore international issues while earning a supplemental credential for their transcript. Focused on skills-based courses at McCombs, the minor is easy to add to even the most complex academic plan.
  • Global Management Minor: The GM minor focuses on how global organizations adapt to the evolving geopolitical context. Built around an international experience, it gives students knowledge and practical skills for making effective decisions in a global environment.
  • International Business Major (Skills Focus): The IB-Skills major offers students the opportunity to focus on the way functional areas of business, such as supply chain management, accounting, and finance, address business a global scale. The highly customizable IB-Skills major allows students the flexibility to tailor their major to their particular area of interest.
  • International Business Major (Foreign Language & Culture): The IB-FLC major gives students a chance to dig deep into how business operates in a particular geographic region. Ideal for students looking to work abroad, the IB-FLC major offers language skills and experience studying or working globally that students will need for success in a particular geography.
  • New International Business Courses: As part of its commitment to international business education, the McCombs School of Business has added several new courses to its offerings. Global Entrepreneurship (IB 372.11) and Global Supply Chains (IB 368) are joining perennial favorites like The Global Political Economy (BGS 374) and Intercultural Management (MAN 337).

New Student Programs

The Center is also implementing two new programs starting this Fall, designed to help students step into the spotlight and connect with alumni and employers

  • Global Ambassadors Program: Designed for exceptional students, the Global Ambassadors Program offers students the opportunity serve as a representative of the Center across campus to and connect directly with Center supporters. Global Ambassadors are acknowledged for their service upon graduation, and admission to the program serves as a distinction on student resumes.
  • Global Portfolio Program: Students pursing international business often have skills and experience that transcend a traditional resume. The Global Portfolio Program offers a platform where students can publish these skills and experiences and create a compelling narrative for prospective employers.

These programs complement the Center’s Mentoring Program and academic and career advising offered by the Center.

The Center is committed to supporting undergraduates as they prepare for an increasingly interconnected world. If you are interested in adding a global readiness component to your academic studies, contact Deborah Salzberg, Global Readiness Adviser, at deborah.salzberg@mccombs.utexas.edu.
