What starts here

This spring, the Center for Global Business awarded its first round of Global Change Maker Scholarships to students from across The University of Texas at Austin. Designed to support the exploration of global business through life-changing international experiences, these scholarships are funded by the Brimble Global Impact Initiative and are open to all UT undergraduate students.

International experiences funded by the scholarships will help students identify global trends and opportunities, develop adaptive skills, and connect with others who share their passion for international business. Experience abroad is vital in helping students find success in their career of choice. As CGB benefactor Ray Brimble put it:

Global Change Maker Scholarships help future change makers kickstart their own initiatives that will change their world — A world that is still changing in many ways most of us can’t even imagine.

2022–23 Global Change Makers

In its inaugural year, the Global Change Maker Scholarships program received over 100 applications from 7 colleges and more than 30 majors across UT Austin. From this highly competitive field, over $33,000 was awarded to 16 students from diverse backgrounds and career interests. With majors ranging from Mechanical Engineering to Textiles and Apparel, the 2022–23 cohort exemplifies the broad range of UT students who are choosing international business studies.

GCM scholarships provide awards of up to $5,000 per student to make education abroad possible for students who might otherwise miss this valuable opportunity. In one student’s words:

Before applying to this specific abroad opportunity, I had strategized how to gather the financial resources to complete my unpaid internship abroad, and it will officially be made possible by you. I could not be more grateful.

Part of a Proud Tradition

These Global Change Makers join this year’s fellow CGB honorees , including Ava Wheeler, Outstanding International Business Major (Class of 2023) and Annalaye Mercadel, University-Wide Endowed Presidential Scholarship Recipient (Class of 2024) in building a proud tradition of future world changers.

Whether through Global Change Maker Scholarships or with other support, the pursuit of international business can lead to wonderful things. For Ray Brimble, the connection is clear:

I was lucky enough to get involved in international business very early on when I started my very first company in Houston. Barely 22 years old, I was just getting my feet wet shipping oilfield equipment to drilling operations around the world. As a result, I’ve had a wonderful career and life.

I wish all of that, and more, for our students and future business leaders coming to — and passing through — The University of Texas at Austin.
